This article is a list of fictional characters as featured in British dramedy television series Skins.

Main characters

The following are characters who lead the plot.

Tony Stonem

Main article: Tony Stonem

• Played by: Nicholas Hoult

A possible sociopath, Tony's manipulative ways go unnoticed by many for some time. In at the beginning of series 1, he's loved by many and often gets his own way. Many of his friends' parents like him. He is loved by Michelle, and although he cheats on her with many (notably Abigail and Maxxie), it is revealed at the end of the series 1 finale that he loves her back(series 2 they are no longer going out). Immediately after admitting this, he is hit by a bus, which leaves him mentally impaired. He finds it difficult to perform simple tasks such as eating with a fork and writing his name, and he is unable to remember certain events or people at the current moment.

Maxxie Oliver

Maxxie is an openly-gay character who loves to dance. He has expressed to his parents on several occasions that he does not wish to further his studies in college, but wants to pursue a dancing career, something his father is greatly against.

Sid Jenkins

Sid was desperate to lose his virginity in series 1, and his character had become known for this. Although a smart boy, he struggles with school and actually failed an entire year. He was in love with Michelle in series 1, while at the same time, he was completely oblivious to the affection Cassie had for him. Towards the end of series 1, Sid and Cassie become closer and sparks fly. He is now in a long distance relationship with Cassie.

Michelle Richardson

Tony's former girlfriend who thinks a lot of herself. Michelle was aware of Sid's affections to her, however she still loved Tony, but it is yet to be revealed if her feelings still exist in series 2. After the series 1 finale when Tony is hit by a bus, Michelle finds it difficult to visit him in the hospital. She lives with her mother, who is now currently on her third husband.

Cassie

Main article: Cassie (Skins character)

• Played by: Hannah Murray

Cassie has an eating disorder and often takes pills to ease her pain. Her actions have resulted in her admittance to rehab clinics. She harboured a deep affection for Sid in Season 1, who, unaware of her interest in him, repeatedly pushed her towards her breaking point. The two are now an item, although Cassie is currently in rehab in Scotland.

Chris Miles

Chris is the teenage party animal who'll snort, smoke, screw or rob anything. In the first half of series 1, he lives at home with his mother. However, after his mother takes an unexpected "trip" and effectively leaves him for good, he lives on campus in student lodging. He has a broken relationship with his father, although his stepmother has taken a liking towards him. He is known to have a crush on his teacher Angie, who seems to be very attracted to him. The two have hooked up on several occasions, despite Angie's uneasiness of the situation. At the end of Series 1, Chris and Angie have had sex at least four times. Angie has not yet appeared in Series 2 and there have been no references to her relationship with Chris as yet.

Jal Fazer

Jal is of mixed-race girl who plays the clarinet. She spent much of her time practicing for the Musician of the Year Award in series 1, which she inevitably did not win. She lives with her dad, who seems to be a well respected figure in the area, and her two brothers, Lynton and Ace who, despite being constantly irritating to her, are also particularly protective, too.

Anwar Kharral

A Muslim boy who nevertheless drinks and takes drugs. Maxxie and others criticise him as a hypocrite because he attributes his dislike of gay people to the Koran, which he ironically disobeys frequently.

Effy Stonem

Main article: Effy Stonem

• Played by: Kaya Scodelario

Effy is the sister of Tony, and she is cared for greatly by him. She is known as a party girl and is a relatively underdeveloped character, seeing as she doesn't talk much.

Abigail Stock

Main article: Abigail Stock

• Played by: Georgina Moffat

A posh choir girl who is friendly with Tony. Her mother works as a doctor at the rehabilitation centre which Cassie frequently visited. She is the sister of Josh.

Posh Kenneth

• Played by: Daniel Kaluuya

Posh black boy, portrayed as a "wannabe gangsta". Kenneth is the least developed character of the credited main cast, speaking only a few lines. Half of the time he speaks very inner-city, and the other half he speaks incredibly articulately. In the series finale, he displays a romantic interest in Jal. In the first episode of the second season he is seen rapping at a party that the gang attends.

Sketch

Sketch is fully introduced to the series as a classmate of the regular cast in the second episode of the second series, although her character was hinted at in the first episode of the series 2, and she appears in a non-speaking role in the episode of Unseen Skins called "Auditions". Sketch's real name is revealed to be Lucy, although 'Sketch' is clearly a nickname which peers refer to her as. She lives with her mum (portrayed by Marie Miles), who suffers from Multiple Sclerosis, in the same block of flats as Maxxie, whom she stalks and obsesses over. Sketch has told elaborate lies to her mother that Maxxie is her boyfriend, despite the fact that he is gay. She becomes upset while watching rehearsals of the school play, which require Maxxie and Michelle (the play's lead roles) to kiss, and after a series of lies and deceit that involve a teacher being fired and the non-fatal poisoning of Michelle, she replaces Michelle as the lead role. Maxxie reveals to Sketch that he has no interest in her and that he finds her actions appalling. Sketch later sleeps with Anwar, but it's clear that she still harbors feelings for Maxxie.

Scarlett

Scarlett is Michelle's new stepsister who tries to steal her friends. She is introduced in series 2.

Tony's mother who, unlike Tony's father, is considerably calm and relaxed.

Cassie's father. He has a hobby of painting nude portraits of his wife.

Reuben is Cassie's baby brother and is often neglected by Cassie's parents, leaving her to look after him.

Dr. Victoria Stock

• Played by: Heidi Monsen

Abigail and Josh's mother and Cassie's rehab councilor.

Josh Stock

• Played by: Ben Lloyd-Hughes

Josh is Abigail's brother, featured in the episode "Michelle". After dumping Tony, Michelle starts a relationship with Josh. He candidly reveals that he believes his mother (Cassie's psychiatrist) is "psychotic" and that she psychoanalyzes and medicates her children, and claims that he is a "different person" off the drugs. Perhaps knowing this from his own encounters with Abigail, Tony sends Michelle sensitive pictures of Abi from Josh's phone, making her believe he is crazy and dumping him.

Josh reappears in "Effy" with a vendetta against Tony. Possibly knowing how much Tony loves his sister, he takes her hostage and overdoses her on drugs. When Tony arrives, Josh tells him that the only way that they will call an ambulance for her is if Tony has sex with Effy. After much begging and pleading, Josh finally relents and allows Effy and Tony to walk away.

A character with a similar appearance and the same name is introduced at Abigail's party in the first episode of the series, "Tony". He is punched in the face by Tony as he confronts Chris and Maxxie for causing trouble at the party. It is likely that the Josh featured in this episode is in fact Josh Stock.

Ronnie Fazer

Jal's father. Originally seems to ignore his daughter due to his music career, but shows a protective love for Jal when Mad Twatter attacks her.

Ace Fazer

• Played by: Troy Glasgow

Jal's brother. He's an aspiring rapper who ignores her until she needs him most.

Lynton Fazer

• Played by: Adrian Fergus Fuller

Jal's brother. He's an aspiring rapper.

Mary Miles

• Played by: Sarah Lancashire

Chris's stepmother and mother to Chris's stepbrother. She is very fond of Chris, despite her husband's (Chris's father) opinions.

Mark Jenkins

• Played by: Peter Capaldi

Sid's father. He owns an Rover Mini which has been stolen at least twice by Tony. He has a bad temper and is very judgmental of his son, describing him as a "lazy little fucker." He is fond of the seemingly perfect Tony and wishes that Sid could be more like him. Due to his frequent angry outbursts and the deterioration of their relationship, his wife left him in "Sid". Sid urges his father to try and get her back. It is unclear from the events of later episodes whether or not he was successful.

Liz Jenkins

Sid's mother.

Istiak Kharral

• Played by: Inder Manocha

Anwar's father. Although he believes strongly in his religion, he is accepting of his son's friend Maxxie's homosexuality.

Mrs. Kharral

Walter Oliver

• Played by: Bill Bailey

Maxxie's father, who enjoys line dancing with dogs. He is against the idea of Maxxie pursuing a dancing career.

Jackie Oliver

• Played by: Fiona Allen

Maxxie's mother, a down-to-earth woman who used to clean for Anthea Stonem and look after Tony when he was a baby.

College staff

Angie

• Played by: Siwan Morris

Angie is a psychology teacher at the college who has shown an affection for Chris. She slept with him during the trip in Russia, but is determined that the relationship will not develop further. She is the former fiancé of Mervin.

Tom Barkley

• Played by: Robert Wilfort

Tom is a history teacher at the college who sometimes struggles to empathise with his young students with his view on their 'lingo'. He harbours an affection for Angie, and gave Sid a second chance after he literally fails the whole year.

Claire

• Played by: Pooky Quesnel

Claire is the constantly-swearing music teacher who conducts the orchestra which Jal plays in.

Doug

• Played by: Giles Thomas

Teacher, who passed on a complaint to Claire about her foul mouth, but later slept with her.

Marnie

• Played by: Wendy Brierley

Lunch lady at college who believes that Jamie Oliver is a "smartarse blonde fucker."

Others

Madison "Mad" Twatter PhD

• Played by: Stephen Martin Walters

Drug-dealer-turned-supply-teacher who chases up Sid after he fails to pay him £300 for a drug deal of 3 ounces of marijuana. He later confronts Sid when he is with Jal and mugs them of Sid's credit card, Jal's handbag and also Jal's clarinet which he smashes against the wall. His last appearance in the first series is seen being abducted by Jal's dad Ronnie, and his bouncers in an SUV.

Alan

• Played by: Alan George

The only adult Cassie trusts. He is the taxi driver who takes her to and from rehab.

Donny

• Played by: Ben Smith

Friend of Ace and Lynton Fazer, who raps with them.

Alicia

• Played by: Annie Harvey

Ronnie Fazer's love interest who is also a musician whose track Ronnie is remixing.

Anka

• Played by: Olga Fedori

Anwar's Russian love interest. Is revealed that she was already married after Anwar sleeps with her.

Valentina Rynkowski

• Played by: Tessa Bell-Briggs

Translator for the class on their Russian trip.

Spencer

• Played by: Tom Payne

Close friend to Josh Stock, and aids him in his vendetta against Tony. In "Effy", Effy is unknowingly kidnapped by him and drugged, then brought to the sports hall where they meet with Josh, and lure Tony in.

Mervin

• Played by: Alastair Cumming

Angie's former fiancé who returned from Alaska and wanted to renew their relationship. He has previously lived and worked in Australia as a weather presenter. From watching his weather report chris assumes he is gay.

Dale

• Played by: Matthew Heyfield

Son of Bandy and ASBO who is seen insulting Maxxie of his homosexuality with his friends. It is revealed at the end of the premiere of series 2 that Dale is gay himself, and takes a liking to Maxxie.

Bandy

• Played by: Geoffrey Hughes

Father of Dale. Bandy seems to be friends with Walter Oliver; they possibly know each other from work, as Walter is a builder and Bandy is seen in series 1 working on a scrap-yard. He is also a drug-dealer and sells Chris pills. He was recently selling a batch from Lithuania, called "Retro Eastern-bloc". Bandy's wife was given early release but apparently had to wear an electronic tag. She was banned for life from "operating a concrete-mixer or a cattle prod".

It should be noted that although it appears that the character is called "Bandy" this may just be due to strong Bristol accents, as he was credited in all listings (and possibly on the show) as "Brandy".
