The barque was driven ashore and wrecked in Lucas Cove, Glamorgan with the loss of seven of her eleven crew. She was on a voyage from Santiago de Cuba, Cuba to Swansea, Glamorgan.[2]
The brig went down at Long Sand, Essex on a voyage from Hartlepool to Brest. The captain, Isaac Wilson, his mate, Will Bain, Mrs Barbara Bain and two of their children were drowned. This was confirmed by a letter from the ship's owner, John Holliday, written on 13 March 1858 to George Müller, to support the application for admission of William Bain, another child of Will Bain, to the Bristol orphanage. This letter is held by The George Müller Charitable Trust in Bristol. Another letter reveals that all but one member of the crew and another child of Will (possibly William?) were lost.
The ship ran aground Makanrushi during a heavy fog. The vessel was righted by cutting away her masts and got off the rocks by lighting her of gear and cargo. She was then jury-rigged and taken to Ayan, where she was condemned and sold at auction. The crew and cargo of oil and bone were saved.[6][7][8][9]
The ship was wrecked in Nikolaya Bay in the western Sea of Okhotsk during a gale. Most of the crew were rescued by the bark Harmony (United States); four men wintered by the wreck – one of which died. The three survivors and most the cargo of oil and bone were saved by the ship Italy (United States) the following year.[10][11]
