Logan Hicks is an American contemporary artist born in 1971 and graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art. He lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
Background
Logan Hicks was born in 1971 and grew up in Baltimore,Maryland. He graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art[1] in the beginning of the 90s, he started to work as a screenprinter. in San Diego, California, joining the Lowbrow (art movement). In 2007, Hicks moved to Brooklyn, New York and continue working , this time as multi-layer stencil[2].
Artworks
Hicks had been working using a variety of mediums including screenprint, but the most recognizable form is the multi-layer stencil.He started working in Stencils by the time he was living in San Diego, California His work is mainly related to urban landscapes.The artworks are Based on pictures taked by himself, Each works has an average of five or six different stencil layers, He has to cut then and painted one on top of each other to reach the final result. But the sprays of the colors make his Hyperrealism work takes up to a new meaning. The exceptional rendering of nocturnal light[3].
The Bowery Wall
“Story of My Life” is the title of a mural made by Hicks at the intersection of Houston Street and the Bowery in New York City. Made of 1,050 stencils and measuring 70-foot-by-20-foot, this mural is composed of images of 150 people. The mural “contains friends, family and people that the Artist personally know around New York.[4].[5]
