Luke Montz (born July 7, 1983) is an American former professional baseball catcher. He has played in MLB for the Washington Nationals and Oakland Athletics. He is currently a coach for the Portland Sea Dogs of the Eastern League (baseball).
Career
Montreal Expos / Washington Nationals
Montz was drafted by the then-Montreal Expos in the 17th round of the 2003 Major League Baseball draft. He made his major league debut on September 4, 2008, against the Atlanta Braves. In that game, he had three at-bats, going 0-3.
New York Mets/Florida Marlins
Montz signed to a minor league contract with the New York Mets for the 2010 season and with the Florida Marlins for the 2011 season. He re-signed with the Marlins for the 2012 season. In 2012, he played for Triple-A New Orleans, splitting his time between catching and playing first base. On the year, he hit .222/.310/.495 with 29 HR and 74 RBI
Oakland Athletics
He signed a minor league contract with the Oakland Athletics in November, 2012. He was designated for assignment on September 1, 2013.[1] He was released on September 3, 2013. He re-signed in October 2013.
Boston Red Sox
On December 4, 2014 Montz signed a minor league deal with the Boston Red Sox. On December 17, 2014 he was assigned to AAA Pawtucket Red Sox. He was released on June 27, 2015.
