"Luna" (English: "Moon"; stylized in all caps) is a song by Colombian singer-songwriter Feid and American producer ATL Jacob from Feid's second extended play, Ferxxocalipsis (2023). Feid wrote the song, and Jacob, Hendrix Smoke, EVRGRN, 254Bodi and FritzOnDaTrak produced it. The song is a fusion of Latin rhythms with American hip hop. Lyrically, the song describes the sad feeling of breaking up a relationship.

"Luna" topped the charts in Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru and Spain, and managed to enter the top-ten on the Spotify chart and the top-five on the Billboard Global Excl. US. An accompanying music video, directed by Sebastián Sánchez, was released on March 6, 2024. The video shows a couple in love who broke up their relationship, but the man tries to recover it by going back to the past, but after being shot he loses his memory when he survives.

Background and composition

On November 29, 2023, Feid announced on Instagram that his second extended play, Ferxxocalipsis, would be released three days later, and revealed its track listing, where "Luna" is placed at number six, being his third musical work released in December for a consecutive year.[1][2][3][4] Pablo Figueroa of Infobae guessed the release date's month is "because it's the Paisa singer's favorite month."[4]

According to the liner notes of Ferxxocalipsis, Feid wrote the song, while ATL Jacob, Hendrix Smoke, EVRGRN, 254Bodi and FritzOnDaTrack produced it, with Jacob being the only one credited as lead artist.[5] It was recorded, mixed and mastered by Wain at Art & Music Studios in Milan, Italy and 24k Mastering.[5] El Colombiano's Jaime Horacio Arango Duque said that the song lyrics "relates the sad feeling that appears when a woman leaves the relationship to go with another person."[2] Rolling Stone's Valentina Villamil and El Tiempo's Lina Hernández Serrano described it as part of an album that mantains the unmistikable reggaeton sound of the Colombian, which "fuses the Latin rhythms with the American hip hop".[6][7]

Commercial performance

"Luna" topped national charts in Bolivia,[8] Colombia,[9] Costa Rica,[10] Ecuador,[11] Paraguay[12] and Peru,[13] and reached the top 10 of singles charts in El Salvador (number 2),[14] Chile (number 3),[15] Honduras (number 4),[16] Panama (number 8),[17] Nicaragua (number 9)[18] and Argentina (number 10).[19] In the United States, the song peaked at number 4 on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100[20] and at number 15 on the Hot Latin Songs chart.[21] In Spain, it topped the national chart and received two times a platinum certification from the Productores de Música de España (PROMUSICAE).[22]

On Spotify, the song climbed to number seven on the platform, making it Feid's first streaming top-ten entry.[23] The song debuted at 184 at the Billboard Global Excl. US chart for the week ending December 16, 2023.[24] On January 20, 2024, it jumped 13 spots to number 10 on Global Excl. US, being a new entry at the top-ten on the chart with The Weeknd, Jennie and Lily-Rose Depp's "One of the Girls" due to an increase of 20% to 30 million streams outside the United States compared to the previous week.[25] Two weeks later, the song climbed three spots to number four, with streams increasing 11% to 41,5 million, making it his first top-five entry on the chart.[26]

Music video

After constant request from his fans, Feid released a music video for "Luna" via YouTube on March 6, 2024.[27][28][29] After the release, he thanked his fans "for taking this song so far, we made this video thinking of you, we gave it all the love possible."[27] The video shows the performers in front of a car in the middle of the desert, while it relates a couple in love who broke up their relationship, in which the man starred by Feid tries to go back in time to fix things with her, ending up shot by three gang members hired by her.[28][30] However, he managed to survive the second time but loses his memory when he regains consciousness in a hospital.[27][28][30] Sebastián Sánchez directed the video, and Marcello Peschera served as director of photography.[27][29] The video received positive comments from public, and Infobae's Lina Muñoz Medina described that its plot "addresses the theme of love and hope under adverse circumstances, generating significant emotional resonance among viewers."[27]
