Lymnaea stagnalis, the great pond snail, is a species of freshwater gastropod from the family Lymnaeidae.

Height of shell: 45-60 mm. Width of shell: 20-30 (34) mm.

Distribution and biotope

Distribuiton: Holarctic. It is widely distributed species, common in many countries.

  • Germany - distributed in whole Germany but in 2 states in red list (Rote Liste BRD).[3]

Biotope: freshwater slowly running waters and standing water bodies.
