Madison Keys (born February 17, 1995) is an American tennis player who, on July 13, 2009 at the age of 14, as a member of the Philadelphia Freedoms, beat reigning Wimbledon champion Serena Williams in women's singles by a score of 5–1.[1] Keys earned her first main draw into the 2011 U.S. Open by beating Beatrice Capra in a wildcard playoff on Aug. 21, 2011.

She plays right-handed with a double-handed backhand. Her highest junior ranking was No.35 on April 6, 2009. She is one of the youngest tennis player to win a match on the WTA Tour, at the age of 14 years and 48 days by beating World No.81 Alla Kudryavtseva. Since the age of 9, she has been part of the Chris Evert Academy in Boca Raton.

Playing style

Keys plays right-handed, has powerful groundstrokes for her age and dominant serves over 100 mph.

2011

Keys won her first-ever U.S. Open match on Aug. 29, 2011, beating world No. 111 Jill Craybas 6-2, 6-4 in the first round. She had an excellent opportunity to win her second on Aug. 31, when she won the first set against world No. 27 Lucie Safarova 6-3. Safarova rebounded, though, and won the next two sets 7-5, 6-4. Keys won a spot in the 2011 U.S. Open by beating Beatrice Capra in the finals of an eight-player wildcard playoff held at The Tennis Center at College Park (Maryland) on Aug. 21, 2011. She came from behind to earn the win, dropping the first set 3-6 but taking the next two sets 7-5, 6-0. She advanced to playoffs final after beating Gail Brodsky the day before. Her 2011 U.S. Open appearance in the main draw was her first. Keys is also now training with the USTA.

2009

At the Ponte Vedra Beach, she received a wildcard for her first WTA tournament. She beat World No.81 Alla Kudryavtseva in straight sets, 6–4, 7–5. in the first round, but she was defeated by the top seed Nadia Petrova, 6–3, 6–2. Madison Keys also plays WTT Team Tennis Match for Philadelphia Freedoms

Personal

Keys first became interested in tennis because she liked tennis dresses, according to a video interview she conducted with World Tennis Magazine in August of 2011. She also said that she is a big fan of Roger Federer and that she hopes to convince her parents to let her get a car within a few years.
