It is a Malayalam adaptation of the English movie Everybody's Baby: The Rescue of Jessica McClure, which is based on the true story of the rescue of an 18-month-old girl from a water well. Malootty is set in the 1980s when a girl is trapped in a hole; she survives after many hours. The title drawings were done by Bharathan's son. Shamili won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Child Artist.[1]
