Martinus Richter (born 1968)[1] is a German general, orthopaedic and trauma surgeon, Associate Professor at the Hannover Medical School and Head of the Department for Foot and Ankle Surgery Nuremberg and Rummelsberg at the Hospital Rummelsberg and Sana-Hospital Nuremberg.

Life

Richter went to Medical School at the University of Freiburg from 1990 to 1996. He completed his internship in orthopaedic surgeryat the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, University of Pittsburgh, USA 1995/96. In 1996 he finished his MD thesis in Freiburg. Richter was habilitated in 2002 (comparable to PhD thesis). In 2006 he was assigned as Associate Professor at the Hannover Medical School. He finished a second degree in business administration for medicines (MBA). Richter's professional career included the positions resident, fellow and attending at the Department for Trauma Surgery at the Hannover Medical School (MHH) (1998 to 2003), head of the Department for Orthopaedic, Trauma and Foot Surgery, Coburg Clinical Center (2006 to 2010), head the Department for Orthopadic, Trauma and Foot Surgery, Coburg and Hildburghausen Clinical Center. Actually Richter is head of the Department for Foot and Ankle Surgery Nuremberg and Rummelsberg at the Hospital Rummelsberg and Sana-Hospital Nuremberg.[1]

Clinical and scientific contribution

Richter´s clinical practice includes treating osteoarthritis, treating deformities like hallux valgus, claw toes, and metatarsalgia, a trauma like bone fractures and tendon and ligament injuries.[2]

In the scientific field, Richter and his team developed a score for diagnosing and tracking foot and ankle conditions.[3][4]

Richter developed a form of pedography for force and pressure measurement that can be used during operations to assess mechanical function.[5][6]

He developed a form of computer assisted surgery for foot and ankle corrections.[7]

He has run clinical trials on a variation of articular cartilage stem cell paste grafting to treat cartilage defects in feet and ankles.[8][9]

He also developed several implants for foot and ankle surgery.[10][11][12][13]
