Matthieu Valverde (born 14 May 1983 in Montreuil, Seine-Saint-Denis) is a French footballer who currently plays for Cypriot First Division side Anorthosis Famagusta.

Career

After the departure of second-choice keeper Frédéric Roux, Valverde was given the #1 shirt and was set to serve as understudy to French international Ulrich Ramé. While Roux was at the club, Valverde made only two league appearances in three years.[1] On 24 July 2009, Valverde joined recently promoted club US Boulogne.[2] On 9 December, due to numerous injuries suffered by their goalkeepers, Toulouse acquired Valverde from Boulogne.

Olympique Lyonnais

With reserve keepers Remy Vercoutre and Anthony Lopes both missing through injury, Valverde was brought in until the end of the 2011/12 season to deputise for Lyon's first choice goalkeeper, Hugo Lloris. Valverde had been a free agent after he had been released by Toulouse the previous season. He said: "Bordeaux were a big club, but Lyon are a level above. Their results for the last 10 years prove it, and I am very happy to be part of this squad. I think that OL are a great club that will allow me to bounce back."
