Mendor is a Finnish health technology company from Helsinki. It specializes in diabetes care solutions. The company's headquarters is located in the business district of Keilaniemi in Espoo, Finland.

Innovations

Mendor Discreet, all-in-one blood glucose meter

The company has introduced a device named Mendor Discreet, a patented, new type of blood glucose meter, which contains all required accessories and consumables (meter, lancet and strip) in one unit. Balance, is the Mendor's on-line application software, enabling users to upload and analyze results from the meter.

Mendor Discreet has been referred to as the iPhone of glucose meters.[1][2] Diabetes Mine reviewed a pre-release model of their Portable All-In-One Glucose meter and gave it "high marks on form factor and user-friendliness," adding that "but there are limits to the innovation here".[3] Just recently Mendor Discreet blood glucose meter was reviewed at Health Central [4] by longtime Diabetes industry professional - David Mendosa with great feedback.

Company

Mendor is a portfolio company of Finnish early stage venture capital fund - Veraventure and was recently voted as the most attractive company for venture capital investment among all the Finnish start-up companies.[5]

Tech Tour, a European wide, independent non-profit organization committed to the development of emerging technology companies, recently selected Mendor as one of the top 30 most promising high growth Nordic technology companies.[6] Mendor was also granted the Innosuomi / Uusimaa award in 2010.[7]

Mendor was founded by Jukka Planman, Tuomas Planman and Kristian Ranta - currently also the CEO of Mendor.[1][2]

Mendor's Board of Directors is led by Mr Matti Vaheri, former president of Orion Diagnostica and Senior Vice President at Orion Corporation).[8] The well known Finnish business executive, Mr Olli Riikkala function as an advisor to the board of directors. Mr Riikala was formerly the CEO of Instrumentarium when it was acquired by GE Healthcare [9] in one of the largest acquisitions of 2002.[10]

History

After a successful entry in a national business plan competition, Venture Cup, the core team decided to found the company in December 2005. User driven product development was started immediately and also several patent applications got filed during the next months. After some time a well known Finnish diabetes professional and researcher, Doctor Antti Virkamäki [11] joined the Mendor team adding significant clinical experience.[1][2]
