Metaversum GmbH is the Berlin-based startup company behind the 3D virtual world Twinity. The company was founded in July 2006 and is led by CEO Jochen Hummel, CMO Dr. Mirko Caspar and CTO Christian von Hardenberg.[1][2] The company has offices in Berlin, Kiev and Singapore and is currently employing around 80 people.[3]

Products and vision

Metaversum aims to be a leading innovator in some of the most promising fields on the web, both in 2D and 3D,[4] and is known for developing and operating the 3D mirror world Twinity[5] as well as the former urban style sharing social network Yumondo.[6]

The vision behind the main product Twinity,[7] is to bring the real and the virtual worlds closer together by building realistic replicas of the world's most vibrant cities in 3D.[8] Berlin, Singapore, London, Miami and New York City have been launched in Twinity so far, with other cities set to follow. Twinity members can create personal avatars, explore real cities virtually, move into a 3D home, chat with friends or just have fun together.

Metaversum is financially provided by international venture capitalists[9] and Balderton Capital, formerly Benchmark Capital Europe,[10] is one of the major investors behind Metaversum.[11] Metaversum also previously received funding from the Interactive Digital Media Programme Office hosted at the Media Development Authority of Singapore.[12]
