Mike Houghton is a former guard in the National Football League.

Biography

Started games at both tackle and center during 2000 after starting all 11 games at tackle as a sophomore ... Expected to once again be in the mix for starting duties.

2000: Saw action in all 11 games, including nine as a starter ... Played a total of 602 snaps on the year, third among SDSU’s offensive linemen ... Played the first two games at center before shifting to tackle for games 3 and 4 ... Moved back to center for the next five games ... Had best games versus Arizona State and Arizona, posting grades of 88 and 89 percent, respectively ... Allowed just three sacks on the year and was penalized just once.

1999: Was thrust into SDSU’s starting lineup due to injuries ... Played the season’s first six games at quick tackle before finishing up the year on the strong side ... Was whistled for just one penalty all season ... Had best games of the season down the stretch, grading out at 88 percent against both Colorado State and UNLV in a pair of Aztec victories.

1998: Did not see action.

1997: Redshirted.

High School: Earned letters in both football and track and field at Mission Bay High School … Holds the school record in the discus … Offensive lineman for the 1996 CIF champions and 1995 CIF runners-up … Named a San Diego Union-Tribune Scholar-Athlete and earned the U.S. Army Reserve Scholar Athlete Award.

Career

Houghton was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the sixth round of the 2002 NFL Draft and would be a member of the Buffalo Bills that season. He played at the collegiate level at San Diego State University.[1]
