On 10 March 1987, the 20th Government of Ireland was officially appointed by Dáil Éireann. The new Fianna Fáil minority government was led by the Taoiseach Charles Haughey.

On that day Haughey announced to the Dáil that the Government had appointed Vincent Brady, TD to the post of Minister for State at the Department of the Taoiseach with special responsibility as Government Chief Whip. Also on the same day several other TDs were appointed Ministers of State to the Government. On 12 March 1987, the Taoiseach announced that the Government had appointed the other Ministers of State.[1]
