"Mississippi Squirrel Revival" is a song by American country music singer Ray Stevens. It is a single from his 1984 album He Thinks He's Ray Stevens.
Content
The song is about an incident occurring in a church, where the narrator sneaks a squirrel into the church. The squirrel sneaks into patrons' clothing, causing them to jump around and inciting a revival.
History
Originally, the song was not intended to be a single, but it was rush-released due to three stations playing it. Stevens felt that is release would help re-establish him as a novelty artist after several unsuccessful albums mostly composed of serious material.[2]
