Nogometni Klub Izola (Template:Lang-en), commonly referred to as NK Izola or simply Izola, was a Slovenian football club from Izola, which played in the Slovenian top division, 1. SNL, for five consecutive seasons during the early 1990s. The club was dissolved after the 1995–96 Slovenian PrvaLiga season.
History
The club was founded in 1923 as Club Calcistico Giovanile Isola d'Istria, when the city of Isola was part of Italy. It was known between 1930–1946 as "Ampelea Isola d'Istria" and played in Serie C between 1937–1946. [citation needed] Italian internationals Giuseppe Grezar[1] Alberto Eliani and Aredio Gimona played with Ampelea in the 1943–44 season.
A successor club which claims rights to Izola's honours and records was established in 1996 under the name MNK Izola.[2] However, they are not legally considered to be successors to the original Izola and the two clubs' track records and honours are kept separate by the Football Association of Slovenia.[2]
