Nabam Tuki (born 7th July 1964) is the 8th and current Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh. He replaced Jarbom Gamlin as chief minister on 1 November 2011. He belongs to the Indian National Congress. Before becoming the Chief Minister, Tuki served as a minister in many state cabinets. Tuki represents Sagalee Consitituency in Papumpare district. He has recently announced preparation of Vision 2030 document for Arunachal Pradesh , it will act as blue print of Arunachal Pradesh’s inclusive development in future.
Tuki was born on 7 July 1964 in a remote village called Ompuli in Sagalee sub-division under Papum Pare district. He is a graduate, is married and has seven children -five daughters and two sons.
He was first elected to the second legislative assembly in 1995 from Sagalee constituency and served as the deputy agriculture minister in the Gegong Apang ministry. He also served as Transport and Civil Aviation minister in 1998. Earlier, he was the IFCD minister in 1996. He was re-elected to the assembly in 1999 from the same constituency and became a cabinet minister with the Environment and Forest portfolio in the Mukut Mithi ministry.He was re-elected in the 2004 and 2009 assembly elections and served as the PWD and urban Development minister under the Apang and Khandu ministries. Before being elected to the legislature, he served as state NSUI President (1983 to 1986) and was the Chairman of North East NSUI Coordination Committee (1984 to 1986). He was the General Secretary of All India NSUI (1986 to 1988) and Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress President (1988 to 1995).
Tuki also served as Vice Chairman, North Eastern Youth Congress Coordination Committee (1988 to 1993) and as Working President, North Eastern Youth Congress Coordination Committee from 1993 to 1995.Since his early days Tuki has been a "people's own leader" and continues to work with the people for the people with special emphasis on sustained and vibrant Panchayati Raj system. Tuki is an ardent advocate of Grass Root Democracy and People's Participation in Developmental Process. As Chief Minister
Nabam Tuki became Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh on 1 November 2011 when he replaced Jarbom Gamlin. Ushering in a new wave of development through a slew of initiatives, the Nabam Tuki led Congress Government in Arunachal Pradesh came out with comprehensive State flagship programmes to achieve the goal of inclusive development.
Arunachal Vision 2030- The Developmental challenges of Arunachal Pradesh are manifold and meeting these challenges requires a systematic approach and strategy. To empower the people and to secure peace, prosperity, and stability, it is imperative to have a long term development vision. It will help our state to adopt a systematic approach towards identifying the challenges, setting targets, and working out a detailed development strategy. With this in view, Government of Arunachal Pradesh is preparing a Vision 2030 document ‘Vision 2030′ for planned growth in the state. Three committees are formed, they are Cabinet Committee, a Committee of Secretaries and a Committee of Experts.These committees will firm up framework and prepare a draft vision document within six months after consultations, field visits and also incorporating public opinion at the village, block, district and state level. The committees will also propose a comprehensive institutional mechanism to achieve the targets assigned in the vision document
CHIEF MINISTER'S PARYATAN VIKAS YOJANA–Popularly referred to as 'Paradise of the East', efforts are on to make Arunachal Pradesh the face of North East Tourism. Launched in 2012-13, CM's Paryatan Vikas Yojana is providing 100 unemployed youths with subsidized cabs to promote tourism entrepreneurship. The government is developing tourism infrastructure along with increasing the number of tourist circuits in addition to opening Tourist Information centers. In the second phase, 161 beneficiaries from the seventeen districts have been selected and are being provided tourist vehicle. Implemented by : Department of TOURISM
CHIEF MINISTER'S SKILL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME-It aims at improving employability of educated unemployed youth. Chief Minister Shri Nabam Tuki has initiated to provide One Lakh job for unemployed youths during the 12th five year plan i.e. 2012-2017.Under this initiative, Job Mela-cum-Skill Development Interview Rally is being organized in regular intervals. Till date more than 31000 youths have been employed or self employed. Implemented by : Department of Skill Development (Industries)
CHIEF MINISTER'S AGRI-MECHANIZATION PROGRAMME–This programme was launched in 2012-13 to aid the farming community in purchase of costly farm machineries. Till date; 100 tractors, 300 power tillers, 700 pumping sets and 600 paddy de-husking machines have been distributed, benefiting 1700 farmers. This programme is continued in the current year and shall benefit more farmers. Implemented by : Department of Agriculture
CHIEF MINISTER'S AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN QUALITY EDUCATION– This initiative encourages and recognizes the dedication of the Principals, Head Masters and Teachers in schools. Following awards has been instituted: Best School Award - One in each District, Rs. 1 lakh each to be spent on skill based learning materials Best Principal and Best Headmaster - Rs. 50,000 each Two best male teachers and two best female teachers- Rs.50, 000 each VIDYA scheme launched for unmarried girl students of Class VI for continuing school education. The scheme envisages an initial deposit of Rs 5000/ only in their account to be drawn with interest after passing class XII.The initial deposit has been increased to Rs. 10000/- from the current year Sanitary napkins provided for better hygiene for female students, benefitting approximately 82,419 girls. CHIEF MINISTER'S UNIVERSAL HEALTH INSURANCE SCHEME: Chief Minister's Universal Health Insurance scheme has been launched and will be operational during the Current year benefiting the people of the State including state government employees. More than 100 teams are engaged in the field for enrolment and to issue smart card. Beneficiaries can avail the benefits of the scheme through empanelled hospitals across the country. CHIEF MINISTER'S DISABILITY PENSION SCHEME - Introduced in 2011-12 to assist the disabled by providing pension at the rate of Rs 500/- per month (which has been increased to Rs. 1,000/- per month from current financial year). During 2011-12, 2012-13 and 2013-14, over 922 persons in 17 Districts and Capital Complex benefited from this programme. Implemented by : Department of Social Justice and Tribal Affairs
CHIEF MINISTER'S LIVELIHOOD MISSION SCHOOL (CMLMS)- Launched at Nampong in Changlang district on 18th October 2012 with the objective of providing skill based training to the youth (aged 18 to 25) , enabling them to earn a decent livelihood. The state government plans to start similar CM Livelihood Mission Schools in other parts of the state. Implemented by : Department of Rural Development
CHIEF MINISTER'S GRANTS LOIN LOOM SCHEME– This scheme envisages helping local weavers and aims to benefit 6424 selected handloom weavers. Funds have been sanctioned and the scheme's launched is underway. Implemented by : Department of Textile & Handicraft
ARUNACHAL KRISHI KARMAN AWARD–It has been instituted to reward best performing districts, farmers and extension workers in agriculture. Implemented by :Department of Agriculture
CHIEF MINISTER'S MISSION MODE PROJECT (MMP)– Introduced to encourage plantation of Tea and Rubber crops, Rs. 500 lakh for tea growers and Rs. 1000 lakh for rubber growers have been earmarked for 2013-14 under this programme. The state government has increased the allocation in the current financial year. Implemented by : Department of Trade & Commerce
CHIEF MINISTER'S TROPHY OF FOOTBALL AND VOLLEYBALL– This award has been announced to promote football and volleyball games at Block, District and State level, both in men and women category. It was successfully conducted in the preceding year with huge response. The Government aims at continuing this programme in the current financial year too. CHIEF MINISTER'S TALENT AWARD SCHEME - Introduced in 2011-12 to instill a spirit of competition and academic excellence amongst students of Class X and XII, the award provides meritorious students with free laptops and has benefitted a total of 2286 government schools students.
