Naga Viper pepper
The Naga Viper pepper is a hybrid chili pepper created in England by British chili farmer, Gerald Fowler of The Chilli Pepper Company, by crossing two of the world's hottest peppers: the Naga Jolokia and the Trinidad Hybrid[1][2].
As of December 3, 2010, it was certified the world's hottest chili pepper by Warwick HRI and will be featured in the Guinness Book of World Records. [3][1]
Scoville rating
The Naga Viper rates a 1,359,000 on the Scoville scale which is over 300,000 points higher than the previous world record holder - the Naga jolokia. It should be noted that a chili trial carried out by a team from the BBC's Gardeners' World programme put the heat value of Dorset Naga at a staggering 1.6 million SHU. [4] Those levels were tested by Warwick HRI. However, this is not the average Scoville Heat Unit level of the pepper, nor was this submitted to any world record holder.
