History

Nekokat was formed in 2015. Their first single, "Gimme A Break" was originally intended to be a track featured on The Ready Set’s 2016 album, I Will Be Nothing Without Your Love featuring Bowen. However, the two artists worked well together, and along with Walker—a frequent collaborator with Witzigreuter—formed Nekokat.

The band’s name is a reference to the Japanese word for cat, neko.
