Nelson Kwei (Chinese: 桂乃舜; pinyin: Guì Nǎi Shùn; born 24 September 1961) is a Singaporean choral conductor. He is currently conductor of the Anderson Junior College choir, Meridian Junior College choir, Victoria Junior College choir, Victoria Chorale, Tanjong Katong Secondary School choir, Catholic High School choir, Victoria School choir and The Vocal Consort.[1] An alumnus of Anglican High School and Temasek Junior College, he studied mathematics at the National University of Singapore and choral conducting at the Royal Academy of Music, London.[1][2]

Biography

Nelson Kwei was born the youngest child out of a family of four brothers. His surname is that of his mother's; his father's surname is 'Chen'. He attended Chong Hock Primary School and Anglican High School, as well as Temasek Junior College. He majored in mathematics in the National University of Singapore and minored in computer science. He has received a masters in choral conducting at the Royal Academy of Music, London.

Career

Nelson Kwei began work as a teacher at Anglican High School, his alma mater, before switching to full-time conducting in 1987.

Kwei is currently the artistic director of A Voyage Of Songs, Jubilate, Orientale Concentus and 21st Century International Choral Festival competitions.
