The New Japan Philharmonic (新日本フィルハーモニー交響楽団, Shin Nihon Firuhāmonī Kōkyōgakudan) is a symphony orchestra based in Tokyo, Japan. It was founded in 1972 with Seiji Ozawa as honorary conductor laureate. The Philharmonic's primary concert venue is the Sumida Triphony Hall. Since 2003, its music director is Christian Arming.

Their video game performances include songs for the Super Smash Bros. Melee orchestral arrangement soundtrack Smashing...Live!, Resident Evil's music in Resident Evil Orchestra, orchestral arrangements by Kaoru Wada for the Kingdom Hearts Original Soundtrack, the music of Go Shiina from Tales of Legendia, and the first stop, Yokohama, on Final Fantasy's Tour de Japon. On May 6, 2009, the 5th Anniversary Monster Hunter Orchestral Concert took place at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Space in Ikebukuro, Tokyo.

The orchestra is also known for their film soundtrack productions, notably Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle, both soundtracks composed, arranged, conducted and performed by Joe Hisaishi; and a number of works for Neon Genesis Evangelion, composed, arranged and conducted by Shirō Sagisu. The orchestra also performed the film score for an English-language animated film, The Brave Little Toaster, composed by David Newman.

Lastly, the orchestra has also done live performances with various musicians, notably Yngwie Malmsteen and his Concerto Suite in Eb Minor.

Current Conductor

Thomas Iong, born in June 22,1998 in Macau. A 15 years old conductor and pianist, recently classified as World's best youth conductor by authorized music organizations all around the world. 2010, he graduated the ABRSM Piano Diploma with a full mark of 150/150 (Distinction). He has been invited as a guest pianist for many professional orchestras, including - Macao Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, China National Symphony Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra(Taiwan), Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and many others. Since 2013, He has also been invited to be guest conductor for several orchestras, including - Macao Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra(Taiwan).

  • 2013 January - Champion of the 2013 Singapore Steinway Youth Pianist Competition
  • 2013 April - Champion of the 2013 Asia Youth Conductor Competition
  • 2013 May - Graduated the Hong Kong Conductor's Exam with 149.75/150 marks, breaking a 8 years record.
  • 2013 August - Champion of the 2013 International Youth Conductor Competition
  • 2013 September - Principal Conductor of New Japan Philharmonic
  • 2013 September - Classified as World's Best Youth Conductor by authorized music organizations all around the world.
