Ogbaku, Imo
Ogbaku (Obaku) is a town made up of eighteen (18) villages in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo state, South Eastern Nigeria. It is situated along Onitsha-Owerri road. It is about 12 km to the city of Owerri.
There are four autonomous communities namely- Ogbaku, Isi Ogbaku, Okwu Ogbaku and Ogbujioma Ogbaku. Each autonomous community has a traditional ruler. They are His Royal Highness, Sir Eze Ben Onyeanwu of Ogbaku; HRH, Eze Emma Iroka of Isi- Ogbaku; HRH Eze S. Uzoamaka of Okwu Ogbaku and HRH, Eze S.K Ejiogu of Ogbujioma Ogbaku. Ogbaku Autonomous Community is made up of Umukabiri, Umunyashi, Umunnomo, Umudogu and Umuaku; Isi Ogbaku consists of Lawa, Ezi -Ogbaku and Umuekpu; Okwu Ogbaku comprises Umuokwere, Umugama, Amaegbu, Umuawaka and Umueze while Ogbujioma is composed of Uzele, Ogbuke, Umuabagwo, Isokpo and Okpuala. There are five primary Schools and two Secondary Schools (Presentation Secondary School-Boys and Ogbaku Comprehensive Secondary School - mixed).
There is a cottage Hospital that hosts a wing of Imo State University Teaching Hospital and a postal agency. The town has pipeborne water and is connected to the national grid for electricity supply.
The people of Ogbaku are farmers, Civil Servants and Traders and teachers.Early teachers in Ogbaku are Oduoza,Nlekwuwa,Ikenga, Nnocha,Achugwo, Akurunwa, Anyanwu, Onyeanwu, Ogide,Ohiri, Orjinta,Okpani,Onuba,Anuforo and many other. There are also illustrious sons and daughters of Ogbaku who are achievers in different fields of endeavour. There are Medical doctors, Engineers, Lawyers, Accountants, Bankers, University lecturers, successful businessmen, etc that hail from Ogbaku and they are all contributing their quota the general good of the society.Many of them are products of those early teachers. Ogbaku is a centre of commercial activities, being a gateway to many neighbouring towns like Amakohia Ubi in Owerri West Local Government Area, Agwa in Ohaji Egbema Local Government Area, Ejemekwuru and all the towns in Orsu Local Government Area including the oil-rich Izombe. Crude Oil deposits exist in Ogbaku. The major market in the town is the Ogbaku daily Market which is filled up every eighth day (ORIEGBAKU-the biggest market day). The people of Ogbaku are mainly Christians of the Roman Catholic and Anglican denominations though some Pentecostal and Evangelical churches are springing up of late.
