Palak is one of the 51 union councils of Abbottabad District in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistan.[3]

Location

Palak is located in the South eastern edge of Abbottabad district (and hence also the south eastern tip of the province). It forms part of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa border with Punjab province and Kashmir, and it also borders the following Union Councils within Abbottabad district, Seer Gharbi to the west, Nathiagali to the North and Malkot to the north west.

Palak is the gateway of District Abbottabad because a gali Barian is a border of NWFP and Punjab and Union Council Palak is started from Barian.

Demographics

The total population of the union council is almost 25,000. The main tribes of Palak are the Dhond Abbasi, Gujjars and Sattis.

Schools

The first Primary Vernacular Boys School was founded in Reala in 1900 and had to be transferred to Birote because of no student availability. Palak has two high schools for boys and one middle school for girls.

There is one boys higher secondary school located in Khanspur Ayubia UC Palak. Another high school for boys is in Nergol Khaira Gali. Wali Dukhtran e Islam Academy Panyali Darwaza, Al Ghazali Public School Khushi Kot and Kohsar Public school Malkot and the Meritorious school system jundala are also prominent educational institutes of Palak Union Council.

Politics

Union Council Palak is one of the most politically active areas of District Abbottabad. Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Khan who is currently serving as governor of KPK and also remained Chief minister of the province; belongs to Malkot UC Palak. Sardar Fareed Ahmad Khan who is currently PML-N MPA from PK 45 Abbottabad also belongs to Malkot UC Palak.

PMLN is the biggest and winner party in UC Pluck PML-N key leaders from UC Palak include Shamoon Yar Khan, Shahid Zohrab Abbasi,Ansar Yousaf Abbasi,Ansar Abbasi Advocate, Aziz ur Rehman Abbasi, Ziafat Arif Satti, Idrees Abbasi, Haji Dildar Abbsi M.Islam Abbasi Haji Husundad Abbasi, Haji Intesab Abbasi and Gul Zaman Abbasi.

PTI is an emerging force in UC Palak as It has managed to gain a massive support among youth in the area. PTI is the second largest party currently in UC Palak which is giving a tough time to PMLN. Several heavyweights of politics of UC Palak have already joined PTI including former Raja Mubeen Ur Rehman UC Nazim Haji Abdur Razzaq Abbasi, , Waseem Dildar Abbasi, Mubarak Abbasi, Tariq Abbasi, Luqman Abbasi and Qayyum Abbasi

Jamat e Islami Pakistan is another active political party in Palak. Prominent leaders of Jamat e Islami Palak include Haji Arshad Abbasi, Akhtar Hussion Satti, Ahmad Nawaz Abbasi, Iqrar Abbasi, Sajjad Ahmad Abbasi and Ikram Abbasi.

Ahl e Sunnat Wal Jamat (formerly SSP) also plays active role in politics of Palak. Iqrar Abbasi of Ahl e Sunnat Wal Jamat also contested general elections from PK 45 Abbottabad. Other leaders of Ahl e Sunnat Wal Jamat Palak are Maulana Asghar Abbasi, Qari Nizam Ud Din, Hafiz Atta Ullah and Mufti Abdur Rehman Abbasi.
