Parachanna is a genus of snakeheads native to tropical Africa. One fossil species, Parachanna fayumensis,Murray, 2006 dated to the Upper Eocene and Lower Oligocene is known from the Jebel Qatrani Formation of the Fayum Depression, Egypt.
