Pontian can be a variant Anglicisation of the Template:Lang-la and its variants in other Romance languages (for example, the Template:Lang-es or the Template:Lang-it). Additionally, it can be used as variant English adjectival forms of the Template:Lang-el (/ˈpɒntəs/; "Pontos", "sea"; other English adjectival forms: "Pontic"); or the Template:Lang-la ("bridge"; other English adjectival forms: "Pontine").
