Popular Committees (Yemen)

Popular committees are armed groups established in Yemen, composed of members from various Yemeni tribes, for the purpose of assisting the Yemeni army during the Yemeni uprising and the late Yemeni civil war. In 2010 it was first established in the province of Shabwa. During the first days of Yemeni revolution in 2011, committees were also created in the Abyan province to support the army in the face of AQAP militants in South Yemen.[1] In 2015 during the Yemeni civil war, the popular resistance committees are formed in some governorates of Yemen, which is witnessing the armed conflict.[2][3]

Background and current situation
