Timișoara manages the harbor city and port have subordinated Otelec where, by channel, achieve[3] connection between Bega and Tisa, and Regensburg, and then, via transshipment Rhine to North Sea, facilitating the transport of agricultural products from Banat to Vienna, but also on the Adriatic coast.[4]

After the Second World War, navigation to Bega was significantly reduced and the freight transport channel was eventually abandoned in 1960. Commercial and passenger ships were withdrawn seven years later.[3]
