The Doberman Pinscher (alternatively spelled Dobermann in countries outside North America) is a breed of domestic dog. Dobermans are sometimes used as guard dogs and police dogs, more so in Europe than North America. In many countries, Dobermans are one of the most recognizable breeds, in part because of their actual roles in society, and in part because of an undeserved stereo-type for being aggressive. However, Dobermans are, in general, a gentle, loyal, loving, and highly intelligent breed. A typical pet Doberman attacks only if it believes that its property or family are in danger.
