The HSBC Headquarters at Queen's Road Central, Central was the most expensive building in the world. It took 6 years to build, with 30,000 tonnes of steel and 4,500 tonnes of aluminium. The building, finished in November 1985, was the fourth headquarters of the HSBC at the site. The second building, built in 1935, was the tallest building between Cairo and San Francisco.
