Is this nomination process necessary? It seems a bit bureaucratic. Can't we just include DYK statements as they appear on the main page?--Cast (talk) 00:51, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, the mainpage DYK's are fine. I just thought that if we wanted the most interesting facts about anarchism, people could pick them out of existing articles and post them here. I thought it would be better if people didn't approve their own, because then it would look like a handful of editors were "managing" the portal in an WP:OWNish way, whereas having someone else review nominations makes things transparent to outsiders and encourages them to join in.
