Prey for the Devil is an upcoming American supernatural horror film directed by Daniel Stamm and written by Robert Zappia. It stars Jacqueline Byers Colin Salmon, Christian Navarro, Lisa Palfrey, Nicholas Ralph, Virginia Madsen, and Ben Cross in his final film before his death in 2020. The film is scheduled to be released on October 28, 2022.

Synopsis

The film's plot has been described as:[1]

Sister Ann, a restless 25-year-old, devoutly believes that performing exorcisms is her calling. But, she is at odds with the institution’s traditions: sisters are not allowed to perform exorcisms, only priests. With the support of a mentor, a professor who senses her special gift, she is allowed to observe actual training sessions. Her desire to prove herself takes a personal turn when she meets one of the school’s most disturbed patients. During their harrowing encounters, Sister Ann comes face to face with a demonic force that infests the school and has mysterious ties to her own past. It is then that the power of evil and her own startling abilities are fully realized.

Production

In October 2019, The Devil's Light was first announced, penned by Halloween H20: 20 Years Later scribe Robert Zappia and James Hawes tapped as director.[2] Lionsgate and Gold Circle Films would co-produce the film with a targeted shooting window of spring 2020 planned.[3] Paul Brooks, Jessica Malanaphy, Todd R. Jones, and Earl Richey Jones would produce the film while Scott Niemeyer, David Brooks and Brad Kessell were named as executive producers.[4] Zappia's script, originally titled The Devil's Flame made the 2018 BloodList.[5] In February 2020, the role of director fell to Daniel Stamm, marking his return to the exorcism sub-genre after the 2010 film The Last Exorcism.[6][1] In June 2020, Jacqueline Byers was announced as the lead actress for The Devil's Light and that she would star alongside Virginia Madsen, Ben Cross, Colin Salmon, Christian Navarro, and Nicholas Ralph.[7]

Filming took place during the summer of 2020 in Sofia, Bulgaria.[8] Actor Ben Cross passed away on August 18, 2020 and had wrapped his filming for his part a mere ten days beforehand.[9]

Release

The Devil's Light is scheduled to be released in theatres on October 28, 2022.[10] It was previously scheduled to be theatrically released in the United States on January 8, 2021, then moved to February 11, 2022, by Lionsgate.[11][12] In July 2022, the film was retitled Prey For the Devil. [13]
