The Principal Secretary to the President of Pakistan is the senior most bureaucratic aide to the President of Pakistan. The position holder is a BPS-22 grade officer, usually belonging to the Pakistan Administrative Service. The Principal Secretary is the administrative head as well as the highest-ranking official of Aiwan-e-Sadr. The Principal Secretary advises and assists the President on all the official business routed through the Aiwan-e-Sadr, and because of this the PS to President is generally regarded as the most crucial aide to the President.[1]

The duties of the Principal Secretary includes, but are not limited to; dealing with official paperwork in the Aiwan-e-Sadr, placing before the President critical files of importance for approval, coordinating activities in the Aiwan-e-Sadr, and preparing notes on issues to be discussed by the President with senior politicians and other dignitaries.[2]
