Families

Ramphastides is an infraorder of the Piciformes order, that includes toucans and barbets. Formerly the barbets have been classified in a single family, Capitonidae.[1] However, this has turned out to be paraphyletic with regard to toucans which resulted Capitonidae being split up into several families.[2][3]

Systematics

Ramphastides contains five extant families. Sometimes Ramphastides is treated as the superfamily Ramphastoidea.[4]
