Raydiation is the third studio album by American recording artist Ray J. It was released by Sanctuary Records in association with the singer's own label, Knockout Entertainment, on September 20, 2005 in the United States.[3] Ray J's first effort in four years, the album was primarily produced by Detail, featuring additional production from Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins, R. Kelly, Ric Rude, and Timbaland. Rapper Fat Joe, singer Mýa and Ray J's sister, singer Brandy, appear a guest vocalist on the album.

Background and production

According to Music Choice, Ray J wrote three songs to be produced by Timbaland but could only afford one.[citation needed]

Release and promotion

The album was postponed several times (from fall 2003 to March, April, June and July 2005) before its release in September 2005. The first single choice varied many times. At certain points Ray J had announced "Keep Sweatin" as his new single. "Quit Actin" was in talks, too, before "One Wish" was picked.[citation needed]

Singles

"One Wish" was chosen as the first single over "Keep Sweatin" and "Quit Actin. The Darkchild produced track became a US national hit, peaking at No. 11 on Billboard's Hot 100 on January 17, 2006. It became Ray-J's first single to reach the Top 20.

After a long delay and much speculation regarding fan-favorite "Melody", the album's second single, "What I Need", was released and became his least-successful single on the Billboard chart, only peaking at No. 54 on the Hot Hip Hop/R&B Chart.

The third and final single, "Lets Play House", did not chart.

Sales and certification

The album entered the Billboard 200 albums chart at No. 48, selling 21,517 copies in its first week.[4] To date,[when?] Raydiation has sold over 400,000 copies domestically.
