The red-shouldered spinetail (Gyalophylax hellmayri) is a species of bird in the monotypic genus Gyalophylax in the ovenbird family. Many authorities do not recognize this classification and place the red-shouldered spinetail in the genus Synallaxis instead. It is endemic to the Caatinga region of north-eastern Brazil. It is threatened by habitat loss.
