Reeve Jefferson Carney (born April 18, 1983) is an American singer-songwriter and actor. He appeared in the Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark as the character of Peter Parker/Spider-Man. He is currently playing Dorian Gray in the Showtime series Penny Dreadful.
Early life
Carney was born and raised in the West Village area of Manhattan,[1] with his brother Zane and sister Paris. His great uncle was Academy Award-winning actor Art Carney.
Carney attended the Academy of Music at Alexander Hamilton High School in Los Angeles with his brother, Zane, and future band mates Aiden Moore and Jon Epcar.[2] He went on to study at the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music, majoring in studio jazz guitar.[3]
Career
At age 15, Carney was playing guitar professionally at B.B King's night club in Los Angeles.[4]
His second band, called Carney,[5] consisted of Reeve, Zane Carney on guitar, Aiden Moore on bass and Jon Epcar on drums. Carney released their debut album, "Mr. Green Vol. 1", in May 2010. The band opened for Arcade Fire and U2 in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada on July 30 on the final date of the U2 360° Tour.
Since 2010, Carney has lived in Manhattan. He starred for 3 years as Spider-Man in the Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, which began previews in November 2010.[6][7] The rest of the band performed as part of the pit orchestra for Turn Off the Dark.[5] He played his final performance on Sunday, September 15, 2013.
Carney is a Givenik Ambassador.[clarification needed][8]
He played Taylor Swift's love interest in her "I Knew You Were Trouble" music video.[9] In 2014, Carney was cast as Dorian Gray in the Showtime series Penny Dreadful.[citation needed]
