Renuka Ravindran (nee Rajagopalan) was the first women to be the Dean of the Indian Institute of Science.[1]

Education and Career

She was student of Presentation Convent in Vepery in Chennai and later a student of Women's Christian College in Chennai.[2] She did her PHD from Indian Institute of Science in Applied Mathematics and later Doktor-Ingenieur from the Technische Hochschule Aachen in Aerodynamics in Germany.[3][4] She had joined Indian Institute of Science in 1967 and being a Professor and the Chairman of the Department of Mathematics and finally became the Dean of Indian Institute of Science.She has also been visiting Professor in various Universities including the University of Kaiserslautern ,Germany.[5] Her fields of specialization are on nonlinear waves and non-Newtonian fluids.
