Richard Mark Bateman (born 27 May 1958) is a British botanist. He graduated in Biology in 1981 and later earned a doctorate in Paleobiology in 1985.

He was awarded the Bicentenary Medal of the Linnean Society in 1994. He served as Keeper of Botany from 2000 till 2004.
