Richard Kennar (born 10 December 1994) is a Samoan professional rugby league footballer who plays for the South Sydney Rabbitohs in the National Rugby League. He plays as a centre and winger. He previously played for the Melbourne Storm.

Background

Born in Apia, Samoa, Kennar moved to Melbourne, Australia at a young age and studied at Roxburgh Secondary College. He played his junior rugby league for the Northern Thunder, before being signed by the Melbourne Storm.

Playing career

Early career

In October 2011, Kennar played for the Australian Schoolboys while attending Craigieburn Secondary College.[3][4] From 2012 to 2014, he played for the Melbourne Storm's NYC team,[5] before moving on to the Storm's Queensland Cup team, Eastern Suburbs Tigers in 2015.[6]

2015

In round 13 of the 2015 NRL season, Kennar made his NRL debut for the Melbourne Storm against the Panthers.[7] He played 6 games in his debut season, scoring 1 try.[8]

2016

Kennar played a further 3 games for the Storm in 2016, scoring 1 try.[9] In November, he signed a 2-year contract with the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs starting in 2017.[10][11]

2017

Kennar was unable to break into the Bulldogs' first-grade team in 2017. In October, he was granted a release from his Bulldogs contract and signed a 2-year contract with the South Sydney Rabbitohs starting in 2018.[12][13]

2018

Kennar made his Rabbitohs debut in Round 1 of the season, scoring 2 tries in Souths 32-20 loss to the Warriors. On the 15th of June it was announced that Kennar would be released from his final year at South Sydney Rabbitohs to complete a 2 year mormon mission at the start 2019.
