Rigoberto Álvarez Barragán (born January 20, 1978), is a Mexican Boxer in the Light Middleweight division. Rigo is a former Mexican National Middleweight, Super Middleweight, WBC FECARBOX Super Middleweight and interim WBA World Light Middleweight Champion.[1]

Early life

Rigoberto comes from a big boxing family, his brothers are Welterweight prospects Ramón Álvarez, Ricardo Álvarez and the current WBC Middleweight Champion, The Ring Middleweight Champion and lineal champion, Saúl Álvarez.[2]

Professional career

Álvarez lost a close decision to William Gare in South Africa for the World Boxing Foundation Super Middleweight title.[3]

In January 2010 he suffered his second loss by TKO to Marco Antonio Rubio for the WBC Latino Middleweight title.[4]

WBA World Light Middleweight championship

On October 9, 2010 Rigoberto fought interim WBA World Light Middleweight champion Nobuhiro Ishida of Japan for the his interim WBA World Light Middleweight Championship.[5][6] Álvarez defeated Ishida by decision and claimed his interim WBA World Light Middleweight championship.[7][8]
