S. Ramakrishnan (called as "essra")[citation needed] (Tamil: எஸ்.ராமகிருஷ்ணன்; born 1966) is a noted Tamil writer. He was born in Mallankinaru, Virudhunagar district, Tamil Nadu.He is a full-time writer who has been active over the last 25 years in diverse areas of Tamil literature like short stories, novels, plays, children’s literature and translations. Ramakrishnan is noted for his column Thunai Ezhuthu in the magazine Ananda Vikatan. His short stories have been translated in German, French, Kannada, Hindi and Malayalam. His other works include Kadhaa Vilaasam, Desaandri, and Alainthen Tirindhen.[1][2][3][4]

Iyal Award:
- In 2011, he received the Iyal Award from The Tamil Lierary Garden, Canada for his contributions to the Tamil Literature.
Wisdom Award:
- He received 2010 Wisdom International award.
Tamil sangam Award:
- He received 2010 Tamil Sagam Award.
Tagore Literature Award:
- He received 2010 Tagore Literature Award from Samsung institutes along with Sahitya Akademi, India’s National Academy of Letters.He is the first Tamil writer getting this award.
About Tagore Literature Award: The Sahitya Akademi will be responsible for selecting the winners for this Award. The Tagore Literature Awards will recognise the best of literary contributions in 24 different Indian languages every year. The Awards Presentation Ceremony will be held every year, coinciding with Tagore’s birth day. Among the many important awards won by him are Tagore Litearay Award for his novel Yamam.
