1935 Saar status referendum
A referendum on territorial status was held in the Saar on 13 January 1935.[1] Since World War I the territory had been separate from Germany and administered by France.[1] Voters were asked whether the Saar should remain under the administration, return to Germany or become part of France. Over 90% voted in favour of reuniting with Germany, which was celebrated by the Nazi government.[1] The annexation to the Reich was completed on 1 March and Saarland became part of Germany again.[1]
