Salahlay is a town in the northwestern Woqooyi Galbeed province, situated in the Somaliland autonomous region of Somalia. It is located around 70km south of the regional capital of Hargeisa, and 15km north of the Somalia-Ethiopia border.

Overview

During Somaliland's second administration (1993-2002), Salahlay was incorporated as a district of Gaaroodi in the Woqooyi Galbeed region.[1]

In the summer of 2007, the dominant local Ciidagale clan declared the city to be the capital of the Gaaroodi sub-region.[2]
