The Cotton Mill Museum and Factory of San Jose de Suaita is a museum locates in San José de Suaita, Colombia. It is housed in the former Inscomercial High School Building. It was assisted by Pierre Raymond, a French sociologist who started a huge job to keep the history and importance of this industry in Colombia. It first opened in 2006.
Profile
Through its exhibits, programs, and collections, the museum preserves and interprets the history of textiles and the textile industry, with special emphasis on the experiences of the craftspeople, industrial workers, manufacturers, machines, inventors, designers, and consumers. The museum also promotes greater understanding of major trends and changes in technology, economy, society, environment, and culture that shaped San José de Suaita (Santander) from 1900 to the present.
Tours
A guided tour provides a special opportunity to experience the story of textiles in Colombia. Knowledgeable guides will lead you through the evolution of this factory, from 1903 to 1981. Its owners and working people as they operate vintage machinery and guides demonstrate the production process.
