Alexander (Sandy) Rendel (1910 – 1991) was a British diplomat and solicitor who also served as SOE agent in Crete during World War II, rising to the rank of Major.[1]

Rendel was a fellow-student of Colonel Tom Dunbabin at Corpus Christi College, Oxford. In early 1943, they met in Cairo and Dunbabin recruited him to SOE. Rendel arrived to Crete in September 1943, after being appointed in charge of the easternmost Lasithi region. He was known to Cretans as Alexis (Greek: Αλέξης).

After the war, Rendel worked as a foreign correspondent for the Times of London. His son was politician David Rendel.[2]
