Saratov State Technical University (Russian: Саратовский государственный технический университет), located in Saratov, is one of the leading technical universities in Russia.

СГТУ currently enrolls 26,466 students. Of these students, 15,115 are full-time, 1554 are evening, and 9723 are part-time. In 2005, the first year only enrolled 1,478 students. Currently the university employs 1,175 teachers, including 200 professors and doctors, and 590 assistant professors and Ph.D. candidates. More than 60 teachers are active members or corresponding members of different social academies of Russia.

History

Opened in 1930 in a Saratov Road Institute (SRI).[1] To jobs in the two faculties - the automotive and road construction - began 440 students. In 1969 SADI renamed Saratov Polytechnic Institute (SPI).[2] In 1992 it was renamed from the BOI in the CSTs.

From 1949 to 1951 at the Department of architecture taught outstanding architect GK Mel'nikov.[3]
