Sati Anasuya is a 1957 Telugu, mythological biographical film, based on the life of Anasuya, produced by Sundarlal Nehata on Rajyasri Productions banner[2] and directed by K. B. Nagabhushanam.[3] Starring N. T. Rama Rao, Anjali Devi, Jamuna in the lead roles[4] and music composed by Ghantasala.[5][6]

Plot

Anasuya (Anjali Devi) is the wife of Atri Mahamuni (Gummadi), a great lady known for her devotion towards her husband. Once in presence of Lord Shiva (Amarnath) & Goddess Parvathi (Suryakala), Sage Narada (Padmanabham) praises the greatness of Anasuya. Hearing that Parvathi gets angry and tries to test Anasuya but in vain. Meanwhile, River Ganga (Chandra Kumari) being polluted due to the sins of the human. she goes to goddesses Lakshmi (Mohana), Parvathi and Saraswathi (Saraswathi) to relieve her from this, but they couldn’t. Narada advises Ganga to request Anasuya and she is relieved of her sins. Listening to this Tri Matas feel jealous about Anasuya. Sivananda (Mukkamala) who lives in Chitrakuta with Atri Mahamuni believes that one should pray only God but not the husband as per Anasuya and he wants to insult her. Sivananda’s son Sukhananda (Relangi) loves Narmada (Jamuna). According to Narmada’s horoscope, her husband dies after marriage, so Sivananda refuses this proposal. The disappointed Narmada wants to go to heaven with the human body. To insult Anasuya, Sivananda advises Narmada to request Anasuya. Anasuya with her power sends Narmada to heaven. But Narmada feels it as a dream. Narada tells Narmada to go to Anasuya again. Anasuya convinces Narmada and tells her to marry the man whom she sees next day morning after sunrise. Tri Matas to take revenge on Anasuya send an ugly blind man Kaushika (K. V. S. Sarma) in front of Narmada. Narmada marries him and starts serving him with devotion. Everyone start criticizing Narmada for marrying blind and ugly man. Kaushika & Narmada cannot bear their comments, leave for pilgrimage. Narmada makes him sit in a cart and personally pulls it, Tri Matas in human form tries to discourage Narmada but she will not listen to them.

Frustrated Tri Matas sends Nagaraja to bite Atri Mahamuni, but Anasuya with her devotional power snake turns into a garland. Tri Matas again send Manmadha (N. Rajan Raju) to molest her when Atri is doing penance. Anasuya realizes the truth and curses him to become blind. Then Tri Matas create famine at Chitrakuta area. Sivananda seeing Manmadha in Atri’s attire blames Anasuya and people attack Ashramam. Anasuya prays Ganga to remove her blames. Then it starts raining, people got relief from draught and realize the truth. In that anger, Sivananda set Atri’s Ashramam on fire but he himself was burnt and loses his eyesight. With the blessings of Anasuya, he gets back his vision and he also bows his head before her. Parallelly, Narmada & Kaushika reach Badri, out of hunger he quarrels with Narmada, walks away alone and falls on Mandavya Maharshi (A. V. Subba Rao). The Sage curses Kaushika that he will die at sunrise. Narmada gets angry and orders God Sun not to rise the next morning. Next morning whole world becomes restless and perturbed, Atri & Anasuya plead Narmada to take back her order as the world without Sun cannot exist. Narmada obeys her order, allows the sun to rise and Kaushika dies. But with the blessings of Anusuya, Kaushika (N. T. Rama Rao) gets back his life rejuvenated and got back his vision too.

Now Tri Matas send the divine trinity Lords Brahma (Seshagiri), Vishnu, (Kanta Rao) & Shiva to test Anasuya. To make them realize the greatness of Anasuya they agree. Anasuya invites them and they ask her to feed them naked. She agrees and fulfills their wish by turning them into small children. There Tri Matas are waiting for their husbands return and come to know reding the transformation they immediately travel to Anasuya’s Ashram and pleads Anasuya to give back her husbands and she does so. Impressed divine trinity decides to give a vow to her and she requests the trinity to born as their son. Finally, the movie ends with the trinity merging and forming into three-headed Anasuya's son Dattatreya.
