Sausage Party is an upcoming 2016 American 3D computer animated comedy film directed by Greg Tiernan and Conrad Vernon, and written by Evan Goldberg, Kyle Hunter, Seth Rogen and Ariel Shaffir. It stars Rogen, Jonah Hill, James Franco, Kristen Wiig, Edward Norton, Michael Cera, David Krumholtz and Nick Kroll.[3] The film will have its world premiere at the South by Southwest Film Festival on March 14, 2016.[4] It is a spoof of Disney and Pixar films.[5]

Synopsis

The film tells the story of one sausage’s quest to discover the truth about his existence. After falling out of a shopping cart, our hero sausage and his new friends embark on a perilous journey through the supermarket to get back to their aisles before the Fourth of July sale.[6]

On July 23, 2010 Evan Goldberg announced his next project he was writing with Seth Rogen, that it is a CG film which he called "top secret super project" named as "Sausage Party". The film will star Rogen and Jonah Hill, and for direction Conrad Vernon and Mark Osborne are attached.[3] Later in November 2010, Hill told MTV News that the film he is working on is an R-rated 3D-animated film.[11] In January 2011, Goldberg told Screen Rant in an interview that it is about sausages in a supermarket that need to get back to their aisle before the Fourth of July.[12] then in interview to CinemaBlend, he revealed a little bit of plot of the film.[13]

On September 24, 2013 it was announced that Sony Pictures Entertainment and Annapurna Pictures will partner and co-finance the film that will be produced by Annapurna and Point Grey Pictures.[14] Greg Tiernan and Conrad Vernon will be the directors, and Megan Ellison, Rogen, Goldberg and Vernon will be the producers.[15] Nitrogen Studios Canada Inc. is set to handle all CG animation, pre-productions and post-productions in Vancouver and Sony will release the film worldwide in 2015.[16]

On January 28, 2014, TheWrap revealed that Rogen, Hill, James Franco and Kristen Wiig will lead in the film, while the other cast includes Edward Norton, Michael Cera, David Krumholtz and Nick Kroll.[8] On April 9, 2014, Salma Hayek joined to lend her voice to the film as Teresa the Taco.[9] On May 29, it was announced that the film would be released on June 3, 2016.[17] It was also announced that Paul Rudd, Danny McBride and Anders Holm would lend their voices to the film.[10]

Release

Originally scheduled for a June 3, 2016, release, it was pushed back to August 12.[18][19][20][21] A rough-cut of the film will screen at the South by Southwest Film Festival on March 14, 2016.[22]
