The scuttling of the Peruvian fleet took place at the port of El Callao in January 1881. As Chilean troops entered Lima and El Callao, the Peruvian naval officer Germán Astete ordered the whole Peruvian fleet to be scuttled to prevent capture by Chile. The ships scuttled included:
