The Serie B has 28 teams divided into two groups. The Apertura champion each year will play the champion of the respective Clausura tournament, in order to determine who will be promoted to the Serie A, or if occasion arises, the team manages to win two tournaments in a year, amount direct without having to play a promotion final and the stadium must met the requirements to promote as well. It was created in the second half of 2008, with the participation and approval of the owners of the teams of Second and Third Division, being next to Serie A part of the Liga Premier.
